The Ministry of Digital Economy and Social Development (MDES) will ask the court to order the closure of an additional 220 gambling websites, along with 982 previously issued orders. The ministry has also instructed Thai internet service providers and mobile operators to prevent access to online gambling websites by court order within 15 days, otherwise they will be charged under the Computer Act and face fines of up to 200,000 baht (about $6,300).
According to thailand's Ministry of Digital Economy and Social Society, studies show that online gambling can make players lose more than normal gambling and cause more consequences due to greater ease of access, so the thai government's view is that problems must be solved quickly.
